Guideline 13
Convey the consequences of user action.

Ensure immediate updates on how user actions shape future interactions and behaviors of the chatbot, fostering transparency and understanding of the AI system.

This guideline emphasizes providing immediate updates to users on how their actions shape future interactions and behaviors of the chatbot, fostering transparency and understanding of the AI system. Upon receiving feedback from the user, the chatbot should explicitly state how their feedback would change the AI’s suggestions or use of language in the future.

Practical implementation involves incorporating features within the chatbot interface that provide real-time feedback to users about the impact of their actions on the chatbot's responses and behaviors. When users provide feedback, the chatbot should acknowledge the feedback and clearly communicate how it would be incorporated into future interactions.

For example, if a user corrects a misclassification or suggests an improvement, the chatbot should thank the user for their input and explain how it would adjust its suggestions or language based on the feedback received. This could include clarifying the reasoning behind certain responses or indicating how the chatbot would tailor its interactions to better meet the user's needs in the future.

By providing immediate updates on the impact of user actions and explicitly stating how feedback would shape future interactions, the chatbot promotes transparency and understanding, empowering users to actively participate in improving the chatbot's performance. This transparent and collaborative approach enhances user trust and engagement, ultimately leading to more effective and supportive experiences in mental health chatbot interactions.
